Opening Expo PUENTES 2013:
La Fundación Patagonista
In which way can the Fundación Patagonista possibly contribute to the PUENTES project?
The fact that a Patagonista, even an amateur, can ride a bike on the clouds, walk on oceans and bring countries together is something we have known for over twenty years. Nonetheless, for the unprepared visitor, we are willing to explain the meaning of being a Patagonista. The Patagonism with which you will be confronted in this exhibition is a wink to a reality that does not exist on the surface. It is related to what the Portuguese writer José Rentes de Carvalho said of fado and saudade, which is the nostalgia of a pain you've never known.
No need to put your feet on the southern end of Latin America to recreate Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego. You can let the wind blow on endless plains populated by millions of sheep; you can build roads to infinity and then, once there, build houses that defy time and remain for centuries... You can sit by the fire and listen to endless stories of indigenous peoples who have disappeared; you can speak languages that even gods don’t understand anymore; you can dream a thousand things, thanks to the bridges built in your mind. It costs nothing, it’s natural and it can be done anytime and anywhere, even at home, on a chair by the fireplace, with a glass of wine and a good book in your hand.
Give it a try!
